Description of the Organization

Axis Company is a small automation company based in Walker Michigan with around 45 employees. Axis specializes in automation for the automotive industries, making the automation lines that would further make car parts using resistance welding, MiG welding, and plasma welding.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

In my time at Axis, I wanted to be part of the different department along with my three co-op rotations. My first semester with them I was mainly working on the factory floor with the workers and reporting directly to one of the project managers. On my second rotation, y was part of the Design department, this is where I wanted to stay the most time since the work was more interesting and the relation between the designers, factory floor workers, project managers, and customers was interconnected. Basically, I was able to know what was going on everywhere and suggest changes to anything. This is where I found the most interest inside the company other from the project manager position that I wanted to be part of, but this was not possible since a project on the automation industry could take more than 1 constant year of work and I was just there 1 semester at a time making this opportunity almost impossible.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

The most important thing I learned as a skill during my work time at Axis would be definitely communication. Everything I do I communicate to my superiors and or keep posted with reports and or verbally. On the tonight hand, 3D cad drawing skills on Solidworks has been another of the most important skills learned during my work time. Spending almost 2 entire semesters using SolidWorks to design, make design changes and or make drawings of everything in an automation cell.

Favorite Part of the Experience

Being able to see everything being built, having the opportunity to see something I've design being handled by factory workers around the factory from the approval section to the CNC, from the CNC to the paint booth and from there to being installed in the correct location in a cell.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience has made me have more connections in the Industry. Knowing more people from around the area, connecting with friends from school in other companies like Koops, Jr Automation, Hutchinson, etc. Being able to know them would make me know better if I made the correct career choice.
