Description of the Organization
The committee to elect Rachel Hood is a political campaign. The campaign consisted of a team of 5 staff members and the candidate, Rachel Hood. We were the team that coordinating all the efforts to get Rachel Hood elected for the 76th State House of Representatives Seat in Michigan.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
This role was very heavy in community relations. I had to engage the community and build relationships. I coordinated events and did a lot of volunteer recruitment. I also was in charge of social media and developing tactics such as posts, fliers, and event execution schedules.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained professional experience as well as experience with communicating with diverse populations in Grand Rapids. I also learned about how campaigns are ran and the work that truly goes into them.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the internship was engaging with the community in Grand Rapids. My interest in Public Relation is community relations so it was the perfect way to connect with the people and truly learn about the burdens they carry. Being able to offer that listening ear made me feel like I was doing something to better the community.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
After this experience, I now have an interest in politics and political campaigns. I am a double major in Political Science and didn't originally want to go into politics but now I have gained a new appreciation for local politics
