Description of the Organization
Intrepid is a company based outside of Detroit, Michigan with other international and domestic offices. Where I worked, there are approximately 80 employees half of which are engineers. The company deals mostly with automotive technology and developing products for doing diagnostics for cars.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
At Intrepid I handled the design of the housing for these products. I also was involved with ordering parts for the products and seeking out quotes for materials and manufacturing jobs. Other tasks I was involved in were developing testing jigs for the our products and figuring out more effective ways to program more products at once. Also developing custom made ideas to make jobs for others easier for the production team here at the office.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
The most knowledge I have gained during my time at Intrepid is figuring cost into things. This was my first time having a real budget. Trying to do things more cost effective rather than just for aesthetic is very challenging yet rewarding.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the co-op is just the environment and the people here. Everyone is so supportive and always willing to help.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has taught me that I want to develop other skills than just the mechanical engineering side of things. Working with the housing for electronic components, I had to familiarize myself with electrical engineering practices which were very interesting to me.
