Description of the Organization
Shape's primary product is roll-formed steel, which is used in a variety of products but most prominently automotive bumpers. There are facilities throughout the world: US, China, Japan, Czech, Mexico that provide a nearby location for all of their customers needs.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
In the CAE department I primarily ran static and dynamic tests on the beams to simulate how the beams would perform under different load cases. The results of these tests were primarily used to try to win new business, as well as internal research.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained knowledge pertaining to the structure of a company, as well as many engineering skills including FEA, dynamics, and material science.
Favorite Part of the Experience
Working on a project for the release of a new beam provided me with a real opportunity to see how R&D of a new product works within a company.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
It has primarily helped me realize what things I need to improve on to reach these goals.
