Description of the Organization

As a contract manufacturer, Rose Medical communicates directly with medical device companies to develop a strategy for manufacturing their products. Services provided include process development, prototyping, and medical device packaging.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

As a project engineering intern, I primarily supported the engineering team. This entailed manufacturing prototype parts, improving process efficiency, manufacturing of various fixtures, and general support of the company as a whole.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

Through this experience, I gained knowledge pertaining to manufacturing technologies and how different parts can be approached for manufacturing. Additionally, I also gained experience using mills and lathes from building and cutting parts in their machine shop. This has helped diversify myself as an engineer and provide depth to my knowledge of manufacturing. This has given me a great appreciation for parts which are designed for ease of manufacturing; this is not the easiest thing to do when customer constraints need to be considered.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part of this co-op experience has been gaining hands-on experience building and manufacturing parts I had designed. This allowed me to understand how a design develops throughout it's life cycle: from CAD model, to manufacturing, and eventually to implementation.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience has reinforced my pursuit of engineering as a career and has shown me that I have selected a major which aligns with my personal interests.
