Employer: GLIAC
Job Title: Compliance Intern
Major: Sport Management
Received Credit: Yes

Description of the Organization
The GLIAC is the conference office that oversees 11 Division 2 athletic programs, including GVSU. The GLIAC office is headquartered in Bay City, MI, but it operates remotely. The main office consists of four full-time employees.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I was able to validate prospective student-athlete scholarship tenders and assist with student-athlete eligibility checks. Projects I assisted with were the Indoor Track Conference Championship, updating Championship Manuals, and planning media days.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I learned the basic knowledge of how athletic departments operate and manage their student-athletes. I was also able to become familiar with the bylaws that operate college athletics and apply those to situations faced by the GLIAC.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the internship was having the opportunity to ask questions. I had an amazing supervisor who told me to ask him questions about whatever I wanted to know. By doing this, I was able to learn about how things worked in college athletics even when it had nothing to do with the work I was doing. This was a great time to learn.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has influenced me to look at a job in compliance as an entry-level job to a career in sports law. I am sure that sports law is the field for me after learning more about it with this experience.
