Description of the Organization

HS Inc is a huge company that plays a role in multiple industry settings. They play a huge role in the tool and die industry and also design and manufacture injection molds. They also have a large automation division that focuses on automated machinery and manufacturing.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

During my third Co-Op rotation, I played the role of a full-time mechanical design engineer. I was in charge of designing eight different automation machines using SolidWorks 2019. Each machine was designed around a different automated process. These machines were designed to assemble automotive interior parts.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

After my three Co-Op rotations with HS Inc. I am now a professional designer using SolidWorks 2019. I also gained extensive manufacturing knowledge regarding automotive parts and components as well as the automated machines themselves. If someone came to me and asked me to create a manufacturing process for any part regardless of complexity I would be able to. I have also become an above-average Ping-Pong player.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part was the people who work in the automation division at HS Inc and the Ping-Pong tournaments.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

It has influenced my career goals in multiple ways. I have now decided that I would like to start a career in manufacturing. I will not necessarily be working in the automation field however I would like to design and build large scale production manufacturing assembly lines.
