Employer: Magna Mirrors
Job Title: Co-op Student
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Received Credit: Yes
Paid: Yes

Description of the Organization
Magna Mirrors is one of the leading manufacturers of automotive mirrors and door handles (inside and out).
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
As an intern with previous knowledge of Pro Engineer (Creo), I was able to fill a need in the outside mirrors division as an FEA resource. I performed both static load and force frequency response analyses on many mirror programs. I then was also able to take my results and apply changes to the model in order to make recommendations as to how to make improvements.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained a much better understanding of the workings of Creo, and now possess a much greater skill than before. I also learned how to go about making a product high performance as well as manufacturable from a die draw perspective.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the experience was getting to work with and interact with the engineers at the facility. I really enjoyed having them come to me with something that they had no idea what was going on with, and then being able to run some analyses, find the problem areas and then give feedback as to how they could solve the problems. (Made me feel important.)
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Before this co-op I had no desire in sitting at a computer working on FEA all day. I saw myself in more of a managerial role. That being said, I was very surprised that I actually really enjoyed the work, it kept my mind engaged and the days went by very quickly. Now, I am looking to stay in FEA and looking to further my knowledge of materials.
