Description of the Organization

Integrated Packaging Machinery(IPM) is a medium sized manufacturing company based in Rockford, MI. IPM specializes in factory integration. The majority of our projects come from dairy factories all around the country. Our goal at IPM is to enrich lives with effective and efficient solutions.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

As a Co-op student at IPM, I did a lot of computer aided design in programs like Solidworks and AutoCad. I had the opportunity to work on real projects with sometimes very custom solutions and problems which I had to work through with members of the team. Overall, I felt as if I was a functional member of the engineering team at IPM and not just an intern.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

Working at a manufacturer like IPM I think the most valuable information I gained was how industry actually works. It is very important as an engineer that you understand how the equipment you design is going to be fabricated, shipped, and eventually built. By working at IPM and getting to see this process from beginning to end, I gained a substantial amount of knowledge.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part about the co-op experience was seeing the parts I designed on the computer actually be brought in house and used on the shop floor.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
