Description of the Organization

JR Automation employs roughly 500 employees across multiple business units. JR is a contracted company that deals in many different industries. Essentially, JR competes to win jobs with customers through quoting efforts. Once a job is won, a team is formed and the machine is designed, built, plumbed, and programmed. The machine is built on JR's plant floor and then shipped to the customer once complete.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I was responsible for designing portions of machines, detailing prints for parts that were to be made, completing design checks for other engineers, supporting builders, and completing redlines for completed jobs.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I have learned about how to interact with coworkers and hold a professional job. I have learned immeasurable amounts about machine design and the components that are used in automation. I also was able to learn how customer visits work and how to conduct oneself with a customer.

Favorite Part of the Experience

I designed a controls engineering training cart in the middle of this semester. The most rewarding thing is seeing my design come to life. I learned so much from this experience and have had so much support from my coworkers on this project. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to complete this project that will hopefully help the company in the future.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

My experience at JR Automation has solidified my love for machine design. I can see myself working at a machine design company in the future. This experience has only helped encourage me to complete my degree and start my professional life. I can't wait to see all the amazing things that I can design.
