Description of the Organization
DeWys Manufacturing is a mid-size sheet metal fabrication company. Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
As an interning safety specialist, I handle day-to-day safety initiatives such as incident investigation for loss and no-loss type incidents, the creation of corrective actions, and work with shop team members to identify areas of concern. Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
The biggest boon I gained from my internship experience was the real-world application of all the theory my classes had taught me. For example, I took an entire course on critical incident analysis, but outside of in-class examples I had never actually done an incident investigation. Working on incidents at DeWys Manufacturing helped me understand the intricacies of implementing safety programs in the workplace.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the internship experience was getting to know the team members throughout the company while working on different safety projects in the facility.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Through this internship experience I learned that site-safety was maybe not what I wanted to do long-term. This internship encouraged me to explore other avenues and help refine what I will be looking for in future positions.
