Description of the Organization
Disher Design and Development is a engineering and business solution contract firm. It works with local, national and international businesses to generate, design and implement engineering and business solutions to make a positive difference for the customer and the industry. It also gives back to the community through team members actively volunteering time, talent and money.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
This semester I have worked on a root cause analysis study at a Disher customer. I have done research on possible causes, reviewed past studies on the issue, supported temporary countermeasures, and have planned and conducted a root cause experiment to determine the contributing factors. I have also supported customers with CAD work and building prototypes and custom end products.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I have gained a better understanding of project management, root cause analysis, and experimental design within the engineering industry. I also better understand manufacturing processes and how to communicate effectively with customers and an international engineering team.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite experience during this coop was to work on a full blown project. At first I was not sold on the root cause project I was given, but soon came to really enjoy the work and the responsibility to drive to a solution.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has given me a glimpse at the multitude of jobs that engineers take on. It has shown me that there is still a lot of the engineering industry to explore and grow into as I start my career.
