Description of the Organization
Gentex is a technology company that specializes in building high end automotive rear view mirrors. The foundation of our mirrors is the auto dimming mirror, which is safer, more reliable, and more aesthetically appealing than a traditional prism mirror. Our mirrors also offer advanced features, from compass readings and temperature display, to backup cameras and automatic control of high beams. The company also manufactures related products, such as auto dimming airplane windows and full display camera mirrors.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
My primary task at Gentex this semester was to support production lines as issues arose. I worked mostly on technical and mechanical malfunctions of the machines. Not only did I support the lines to keep them running, I worked at increasing quality, safety, and productivity in my projects.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained experience in the industry I've been studying at school and an understanding and appreciation for how a manufacturing business runs. More specifically, I learned how mechanical and electrical components of a design work together to accomplish tasks, and gained hands on experience designing and building these types of systems.
Favorite Part of the Experience
Gentex has an outstanding culture throughout the company. I worked with a great team of other support staff members which allowed me to have a lot of fun and learn a lot. They put me in a position where I had plenty of responsibility and felt like I was making a difference, while at the same time I knew they had my back.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I hope to continue working with Gentex as my career goes on, but no matter where life takes me I now know what types of things are important to look for in a company.
