Description of the Organization

The organization that I worked with this semester is structured with engineers, architects, and interior designers. Towerpinkster has around 140 employees strong and continues to grow.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

The tasks that I was assigned this semester included understanding the design of constructing a building electrically. This includes designing new and existing power, lighting and fire alarm in a three dimensional CAD software. I was also tasked with coordinating across different disciplines to ensure that the project design is moving at a great pace between disciplines. It really helps the project design when disciplines are on the same pace, and this ensures that the client would be not only satisfied, but excited about the outcome of the project. I also was tasked with understanding the phasing of the design of a project, and why each project goes through different phases.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I gained a lot of skills in coordination with other disciplines, this was important to make sure the outcome of the project is exactly what the client wants. Going into this co-op, I did not expect to be talking to other disciplines as much, but my supervisor wanted me to get used to talking to the different architects and engineers, because this coordination skill is something that a great engineer needs to have. I also got more experience with circuiting and showing voltage distribution through one-line circuit drawings.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part of the co-op experience was the amount I got to learn from my supervisor and coworkers. This aspect made me excited to go to work everyday. Not only that, but the relationships that I was able to form with the people within the company while working with them was another great memory.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This co-op experience made me understand that I want to be at a company that pushes me. I have learned that it is okay to not always be comfortable, because great engineers and workers learn to overcome obstacles that put you out of your element.
