Description of the Organization
Attwood Corporation, a Brunswick Company, is the world's leading manufacturer of marine accessories for the boating industry, including a wide range of seating, hardware, fuel systems, navigational lighting, pumps, trolling motors and other electro-mechanical components located in Lowell, Michigan. The engineering department is comprised of about 20 engineers, industrial designers and computer aided designers. I reported to the teams lone electrical engineer, which meant there was a lot of work shared between two people.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
My main focus of this semester was trolling motors, however, I was able to spend a little bit of time in lighting. I soldered and potted boards, working on my coding skills and used a thermal imaging to find hot spots on boards during testing. I also designed an LED board for task lights.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
heat transfer, soldering techniques, potting, and test fixture hardware development
Favorite Part of the Experience
All the on river testing I got to perform with the trolling motors
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I know I do not want to do software-related engineering if I can avoid it. I enjoy the hands on side of electrical engineering and prefer hardware to software.
