Description of the Organization
Innotec Group is structured much differently than any other company, where it takes self-motivated people to be successful. You can very much lead projects you are passionate about, and get a good hands on experience in manufacturing engineering. Innotec allows for flexible hours and overtime.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
During this semester I ran production, worked on machine improvement projects, and repaired machines. One of the machine improvement projects I lead was an improvement of an automatic nail machine by adding an encoder, and designing/building a chute that can redirect too short or too long nails down a separate scrap chute to reduce the risk of non-conforming parts being sent to the customer.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Through this experience I got to work on coding improvements using their software and projects to improve machine safety, efficiency, and cycle time. Additionally, I went to design reviews and gave input on other peoples designs, while asking for input on my own designs.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part was getting to experience all of the automation that goes into making good parts, and how systematic making parts can be.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Yes, I went into this co-op undecided on whether I would enjoy manufacturing engineering. After seeing the possible automation, it greatly increased my interest for manufacturing.
