Description of the Organization
The Sierra Club is the oldest environmental organization in the United States. The Michigan Chapter of the Sierra Club placed interns in various political campaigns throughout the state to promote environmental policies and place environmentally friendly candidates in the State legislature.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Tasks mainly consisted of house canvassing and talking to voters at their door about issues that my political candidate was concerned with. Other tasks included putting up yard signs and making phone calls for absentee voting and Get Out the Vote effort.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained the ability to better communicate with constituents about political issues in a productive and informative matter. Voters truly do care about candidates that they vote for, and I was able to be a voice for my candidate.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part was being surrounded by like minded people all of the time. My candidate was one of the most caring and honest people I have ever met and I was completely inspired and amazed by her, I could not have asked for a better candidate to work for. All of the people involved in the campaign truly cared about the work that they were doing.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I am more dedicated than ever to protecting the environment through political means. There are politicians in the world who are willing to listen and create policies that protect the environment, and I want to work with them to promote a sustainable future.
