Description of the Organization
Koops designs and builds custom manufacturing automation systems. Organizationally, the engineering departments are divided into mechanical, controls, and launch. Currently residing at around 120 employees, the company is growing rapidly and expanding.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
As a member of the mechanical engineering team, I designed the custom automation machines produced by Koops. Some of this work involved making modifications to existing machinery, while other work was designing completely new machines. During the designing phase, I was involved in design reviews with customers and collaboration with other designers.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
During this experience, I became proficient in SolidWorks and gained knowledge of various mechanical components. Also, I learned the ways in which machines are designed and assembled according to Koops standard.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this co-op experience was being allowed the freedom to work on projects independently. A great deal of responsibility was given to me over the course of the semester, and for that I am very thankful. This allowed me to fully develop the skills and gain the knowledge that I have during my time.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has confirmed my high interest in the automation industry. Specifically, with Koops' custom machinery there is a vast range of work that is continuously changing. I hope to continue a career in this industry and at Koops.
