Description of the Organization
TGW is a material handling company, the company is based out of Austria but the grand rapids location is for all of North America. TGW does the conveyor and crane or shuttle systems in warehouses for company's such as amazon, GAP, URBN, and many others.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
for a project engineer at TGW it is normal to be working on drawings in AutoCAD for the customer along with going on site and doing site surveys or just helping the install team while they are installing the system. The job is broad and many different tasks you have never done before can come your way, this can range from permitting, install drawings, and many others.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I learned how to use new software's which is very valuable along with being able to travel for work and work with he install team. I had a lot of practice along with solid works, I also was able to become even more proficient in AutoCAD compared to my first rotation at TGW. I learned a lot of small technical skills but the co-op allows you to learn how to operate in a workspace which is the most important part.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I enjoyed working with the install team or communicating with them while they were on site, I think it is cool to be a part of the design process and see the design come to life when it is installed.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
this experience has has helped me narrow down what I want and don't want in a workspace, it has allowed me to figure out more precisely what I enjoy and what I don't. whether I decided to stay in material handling when I graduate or not, the experience of working at TGW will help me look for my future job.
