Employer: Rose Medical
Job Title: Engineering Intern
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Received Credit: Yes

Description of the Organization

Rose Medical is a relatively small company, however, is constantly expanding. Currently, there are 85 total employees including all of the machine operators. Rose is a medical device manufacturing company, specializing in devices such as catheters, dilators, cannulae, etc. All of the machines are created internally, which is a major benefit of this being a small company.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

One of my main tasks was managing the 3D printing schedule and the prints themselves. I spent a good amount of time in the machine shop, doing development work in the lab, and creating/updating documentation.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

My hands-on skills improved significantly over this semester simply because of the new tools and machines that I was fortunate enough to learn how to use. I also got better at managing my time, since many of our customers were billed based on how much time we had spent on their projects. My communication skills improved the most. The people that I work with are excellent team members who I have learned so much from.

Favorite Part of the Experience

The idea of being a part of a project or a process that is for something other than a grade is special. It makes you feel like the work that you are doing is making a difference in society, especially at this company because I know that the medical devices that we produce will directly help somebody somewhere.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

If anything this experience had reinforced my already existing future career goals. I truly enjoyed coming to work knowing that I would be given the opportunity to work at something with a real, concrete, and achievable goal.
