Description of the Organization
Blackmer is the leading global brand of sliding vane, gear, regenerative turbine, and centrifugal pumps and reciprocating compressor technologies for the last 115 years. All of these products are designed for the safe transfer of liquids and gases. Blackmer is a Grand Rapids based company partnering with the Pump Solutions Group (PSG) owned by Dover Corporation.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
During the semester I was challenged with many tasks such as completing Engineering Change Request and Notices, BOM changes, configurator updates, SolidWorks CAD model and drawing design, completing hands on work such as building and tearing down pumps and compressors, and running tests on units.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
This experience has strengthened my knowledge on the operation of pumps and compressors and how forces act throughout the assemblies. It has also allowed me to deepen my understanding of SolidWorks functions.
Favorite Part of the Experience
The best part of this co-op experience was being able to put my engineering knowledge to use in a real-world situation. Seeing the hard work payoff is a great feeling. Also, many relationships in the workplace are formed making this time very enjoyable.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has influenced me to pursue a future full time at Blackmer and help me figure out what I want to focus my work on.
