Description of the Organization
Westshore Design is a company that provides innovative engineering design and manufacturing solutions for small to medium customers. This company is mainly focused on embedded controls, electronic circuit boards, LED vision lighting, outdoor LED lighting, and instrumentation products. However, WSD is growing very fast and is continuously developing new ideas and products for current and new customers.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I was assigned a main project to work on throughout the co-op. This project had me design a peak current meter that was capable of measuring the peak on time current as well as continuous current of all types of industrial LED driver products. The meter was capable of measuring a wide range of current. I also worked on many smaller projects that allowed me to get experience with a variety of products.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Westshore Design is a small company and allowed for me to gain valuable experience in all aspects of product design and development, from concept through production. I improved my skills with schematic design and PCB development while further developing my knowledge and experience with electronics and electrical components. As an electrical engineer intern I focused mainly on embedded system design and development. This included hardware and software design. However, I also had the opportunity to learn and work with production of products(building the PCB boards including THT and SMT components) and quality control of inspecting and debugging circuits.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part was having the opportunity to experience a wide variety of engineering knowledge as well as general business knowledge. I also enjoyed designing a product that will be used by the company in the future.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience influenced me by confirming my career goal of being an electrical engineer and my thrive for knowledge in all aspects of engineering.
