Description of the Organization
JR Automation has about 800 employees and growing fast. The business is comprised of business units that have a smaller family feel, but have the resources of a larger company.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I completed automation quotes on a daily basis. Each quote takes anywhere from one day to three weeks. I dealt with vendors on a daily basis, and many different JR Automation employees as well. I organized meetings for quote reviews, and helped to organize and attend customer meetings as well. The very first quote that I worked on, lasted for a month and a half and was finally sold for more money than I ever thought I'd be involved with.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I learned so much about the automation industry, specifically in the quoting department. As a quoter you have to understand the automation industry as a whole in order to concept a machine that is cost effective and buildable and will meets the customer's needs. I truly learned a handful of new things each day that I worked there, and it was awesome.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I was able to go on a day long business trip to North Detroit with a salesman from JR. I toured a clean room production process and took pictures of a current assembly process in order to better understand how to automate the same process.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I feel that my personality and skill set fits the quoting department at JR Automation wonderfully. If I am offered a position at JR, I'm sure it will be in the quoting department.
