Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Throughout my experience at DAKC, I was able to perform outreach in five counties to over 35 nursing facilities. I also helped to identify barriers to independent living and develop and monitor service plans for consumers while promoting consumer self-determination and using a person-centered perspective.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Some of the skills I gained at DAKC include boundary setting, treatment goal creation, and problem-solving as it relates to budgetary obstacles. I learned an abundance about the aging population, as well as about subsidized housing resources and policies.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this internship experience was building relationships with many wonderful professionals who are passionate about what they do and incredibly knowledgeable. I also loved getting to participate in various events, such as the 25th anniversary of the ADA and making desserts with seniors.
