Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Over the course of the semester, I worked in a manufacturing facility operating controls equipment such as PLC's, safety equipment, and network communications equipment. I used ladder logic to solve issues with machines' programming, AutoCad Electrical to generate electrical wiring diagrams and panel layout prints, and physical components to modify and update machinery.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
During this co-op, I broadened my knowledge and skills regarding PLCs, ladder logic, and electrical diagrams. I learned how to apply these skills in order to solve problems and find solutions.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the experience was representing the controls department at an open house for employees and their families. I was able to create a game that kids could play using industrial controls equipment. It was great being able to create something from scratch using everything I've learned.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has solidified in my mind that I'm pursuing a major that I'm not only talented in, but enjoy doing as well. It's reinforced that I want to continue in the direction I'm going.
