Description of the Organization
Herman Miller is a large furniture company that manufactures office supplies such as high performance seating and desks.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I was tasked with day to day operations of running an assembly line. This included tasks from improving safety like creating new stapling processes to improving machinery to make lines more efficient. I was also tasked with larger products like helping with new product launches and creating floor layouts.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
A technical skill that I was able to learn during my time was how to operate AutoCAD to create and modify layouts. I also learned how to operate in a professional work environment like meeting deadlines and reporting out the work I had been doing.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the co-op was the sense of accomplishment that I felt after doing well in my first rotation. It showed me that I do belong in engineering and am cable of doing a great job.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Herman Miller really helped to point me in the direction of where I want to go in the future. Working with all different types of engineers showed me how their different roles impact the company and gave me real experience of what they do.
