Description of the Organization

Active Inspection specializes in vision inspection systems for manufacturing quality control processes. Image processing is applied to images captured by a camera array to detect manufacturing defects (dents, scratches, holes, etc.) in the material.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I developed software for the user interface in C# using the .NET Framework in order to visualize the inspected defects to the operator in a meaningful way. I also developed some of the image processing software using C++.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

This experience showed me that it is not as difficult as it sounds to learn new programming languages. The wealth of knowledge available on the internet makes it so just about anyone can learn to program if they want to.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part of this co-op experience was writing code to apply image processing algorithms to inspected material images.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience has greatly influenced my future career goals. Before this co-op I had very little interest in programming. This experience opened my eyes to the world of programming and gave me insight into how we interact with our phones, tablets, and computers.
