Description of the Organization
E3 Compliance is a small business that provides design, simulation, testing and diagnostics services in electromagnetic compatibility & high speed signal integrity for electronic products prior to their release to market. Constant communication and accountability are crucial in order to keep track of the parts, tests completed, and results for each active project. With a smaller staff, there is an aura of integrity and trust between coworkers. Overall, it is the best work culture I have ever experienced.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
As with the first two rotations, we are expected to conduct EMC tests; This time around, however, we were challenged to operate with more independence. I was assigned tests I had never conducted before and was trusted to be able to either figure out how to do it and know when to ask for assistance. We were also tasked with communicating more frequently and directly with clients, just like the full-time engineers.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Naturally, I gained significant experience and familiarity of the electronic equipment, circuitry, and EMC concepts. However, I think the most beneficial experience gained is what I learned about myself. I learned where my strengths were, but more importantly, where my weaknesses were, and ways that I have been able to improve them.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this last rotation was the awareness of how far I have come. Compared to my first two rotations, determining how to set up tests was extremely easy. It was very fulfilling to find that I could do so much more on my own before needing to ask for help.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
What I learned most about what I would like in future is the type of working environment that I am in. I love the work culture at E3 Compliance, and in the future will look for a job with a similar environment. This experience allowed me to realize that as long as I love the people I work with and the work I do, I have no real preference regarding the industry or application.
