Description of the Organization
DeWys Manufacturing, Inc. is a metal solutions company that specializes in sheet metal fabrication. They have around 230 employees and are located in Marne, MI. In 2019, they did over 30 million in sales.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
This semester, I completed a variety of design projects. One of which was a continuation of a previous co-op student's project, where I finalized his design, fabricated the project, and saw it through testing until it was ready to be used to run production parts. I completed various other design and fabrication projects, including designing and fabricating a trash bin lifting system for a trash compactor.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained valuable design experience, as well as hands-on experience throughout the semester. I was able to able to apply the knowledge I had, and amplify it with the help of the engineers I was working with.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part was being able to see a few small and large projects through from the design phase to implementation phase. This was very rewarding to see projects work well in the end.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I originally thought I wanted to go into Aerospace engineering or something of that nature, but I learned that I have a pretty keen liking to manufacturing, so I am pretty sure I am going to go into manufacturing when I graduate.
