Description of the Organization
Genesis Seating is a furniture manufacturing facility which manufactures almost all furniture that you sit in. Around 80% of the building consists of assembly stations for each piece of furniture, while the final 20% consists of office space for engineers and other project managers.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I worked with the engineering team on designing the assembly station for a new office chair that'll be introduced around spring of 2023. I was involved with designing the pallet that holds the chair as it goes down the assembly line and the seat press assembly station.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I really learned how to manage juggling several projects at once and getting certain things accomplished by deadlines. This skill was important because everyone on the project team counts on one another to get their tasks done in an orderly manner.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I really liked working with the other engineers. In past rotations I was assigned smaller projects away from the other engineers with loose deadlines. The projects completed this rotation made me feel like a real full time engineer.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I greatly enjoyed working with the other engineers. Projects that involve several people working together build a great company culture and chemistry. I hope wherever I'm called to work has the kind of chemistry Genesis Seating does.
