Description of the Organization
SAF-Holland is a producer of suspensions, landing gear, and coupling products for commercial vehicles such as semi trucks and trailers, gravel haulers, and tankers. It is a smaller company with a large global presence.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
During my second rotation I completed tasks such as performing FEA on various components of the trailer suspensions. I was a part of a team to develop a brand new product. I made component designs, etc. I was able to work in the test lab. There I continued to improve my welding skills, along with other fabricating and mechanical skills. I visited a shell molding foundry.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Learned a lot about welds, designing for welds. Learned a lot about designing for manufacturing, thinking about how the part will be made and if the design is possible for the manufacturing process.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I feel like I am contributing. The tasks I am given are meaningful and add value to the company.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
It has shown me that I want to incorporate skilled trade into my ability and future career.
