Description of the Organization

Ravenna Pattern and Manufacturing builds tooling for the automotive industry. They specialize in building core boxes that are used to construct sand cores.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I was the project manager, overseeing the development of end or arm tooling for robots. I ordered parts, built CAD models, made drawings, and assembled these tools throughout the course of the summer.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I learned how to manage time. It is imperative to stay organized throughout such a process, and organizing your time is vital. These tools were to be completed at a specific deadline, so I needed to make sure I had all my parts ordered, especially the high lead time items. The drawings for machined parts were to be given to the floor managers so these could be built before the due date. It was also necessary to make sure all quantities were correct and at the time of assembly all components were present and accounted for.

Favorite Part of the Experience

I loved working with my co-workers and it was great to be given as much responsibility as I was at the first semester of co-op.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This co-op experience has further encouraged me that I am on the right track in becoming an engineer. Its great to see a project of yours begin and then see the final project at the end. I enjoyed working with all of the various departments and it was encouraging to see that engineers don't sit and crunch numbers all day; everyday offers a new task and activity.
