Viking Products is a medium-sized family-owned product development company primarily focusing on the automotive industry. Viking Products produces a wide variety of parts from small bolts to 6-foot-long aluminum extrusions. Viking aims to design, source, and test parts that exceed customer expectations.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
As an engineering Co-Op, I had the opportunity to work with all the engineers at Viking on various different projects. My responsibilities spanned the entire production process. One day I would be creating prints for new parts, and reaching out to our suppliers, and the next I would be testing the parts before they went out to our customers. Additionally, I provided support in Viking's assembly areas getting to set up and test the latest equipment and processes.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Testing at Viking is very important therefore I gained technical skills working with various tools such as a CMM, Keyence IM systems, Instron tensile tester, and Rockwell hardness tester to name a few. Additionally, I gained communication skills that allow me to convey information professionally and efficiently when completing documentation and reaching out to our suppliers, customers, and outside processing facilities.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the Co-Op experience at Viking Products was the people. Everyone at Viking is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to share that knowledge. All of the engineers at Viking come from different backgrounds and specialize in different processes. It is great to be able to float around and gain knowledge and experience from all of them.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has set the bar high not only for the technical side of the workplace but for the environment as well. I aspire to obtain a career where I can always be learning so that I might exceed expectations yet be confident in the people around me knowing I have support if needed.
