Description of the Organization
Ventra GR5 LLC is a subsidiary of the Flex-N-Gate group. Flex-N-Gate has 69 integrated manufacturing facilities in the United States, China, Argentina, Spain, France, Germany, Mexico, and Canada and has over 26,000 employees. Ventra GR5 manufactures automotive lamps such as tail lamps, fog lamps, CHMSL, etc.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I was tasked to redesign and build a device that tests the different functions of the Ford Bronco tail lamp. Another project that I worked on consisted of designing a smart lamp, which is a lamp with an additional circuit that will modify its functioning by simulating individual failures of the LEDs sequentially. The smart lamp is used to check if the equipment could detect the failures. I also did a lot of troubleshooting of failed lamps to determine the exact cause of the failure and then documented the findings in a report.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
During this co-op rotation, I gained a lot of experience designing PCBs using Eagle and learned about programming Microchip's PIC microcontrollers. I also gained a lot of experience in troubleshooting circuits.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this co-op experience was working with a great team of talented engineers and learning from them.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
My goal in the future is to work in the field of embedded systems design. During this co-op experience, I learned a lot about circuit design and PCB design using Eagle, and I also learned about PIC microcontrollers programming. These skills will help me reach my goal.
