Description of the Organization
The team I am helping coach has 47 players on it as well as four other coaches besides me. This college is a junior college meaning it only gives out two year degrees and the majority of people that go there go on to four year schools after there time here.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
My tasks include taking care of the players in the weight room, helping the pitchers on the team, and baseball operations for the team. One of my biggest tasks I was in charge of is I am in charge of a prospect camp that is being held in January. It is my job to run, staff, and make sure everything runs smoothly.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
The skills I have learned were how to handle big groups in the most effective way possible. Being in charge of 47 guys in a tiny weight room took a while to get used too so I had to use my space wisely. My communication skills improved on trying to explain things to the kids, as well as written communication on reading and sending emails out to parents about the camp I will be running.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this experience was the people I worked with as well as the people I coached. I remember being in the kids shoes so I wanted to make sure I got to know the kids, understand them, and coach them the best way I know how. Another favorite part about this is to me it did not feel like a job it felt like a hobby where the time flew bye and I had fun doing it every day.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Going into this experience I had an idea that I might want to be a coach someday. After my experience is finished the amount of fun and learning I had along the way reassured that I want to be some sort of coach in the future. I enjoy working in baseball and teaching what I know to others.
