Description of the Organization
GE Aviation is part of the conglomerate that is General Electric, founded by Thomas Edison. Aviation has two businesses, engines and systems. I worked for the systems side of the world. We produce flight management systems, black boxes, mission systems, as well as some other avionics.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
On this rotation I worked on the aircraft simulation team. We designed simulators for all of the aircraft we are currently working on. Ranging from the KC-46, which is a fighter jet refueling aircraft, to a basic Boeing 737 commercial jet. I designed and ran testing, designed processes to lean out the teams daily tasks, as well as designed and implemented customer needs into the simulator.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I furthered my knowledge of object oriented programming, as well as visual basic scripting. I also learned a lot about the different products that we produce as a company.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part about this co-op was going to work everyday and flying both military, private, and commercial aircraft.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Through my co-op experience I was offered a full time job working in Grand Rapids at GE and also was offered a free masters degree. All because of this co-op experience.
