Description of the Organization
LG is the largest lithium ion battery manufacturer in the world. They supply many big name car manufacturers such as GM, Ford, Chrysler, Volvo, and Volkswagen with car batteries for their electric and hybrid vehicles.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
At LG I was put in charge of the crating process which sent material to another one of our factories. Also, I worked on safety improvements to some of the roll press machines to get rid of pinch points operators run into. Also I assisted on a project that used Tekscan software to use a pressure sensor to determine the wear of the roll press and the many sub rollers on the machine. Finally, I added adjustable feet to a table. This allowed for the Tesa measurement device to take more accurate measurements by leveling and stabilizing the table.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Project management was a big skill I learned. This was due to the long lead times it took for materials and projects to get completed.
Favorite Part of the Experience
The people at LG are fantastic. They make working here an absolute blast filled with good memories. Also LG takes great care of their interns and provides them with gifts PTO and other goodies which was an added bonus.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience, even though it was positive, has me rethinking going into an automotive manufacturing setting. This was because you must constantly be working even when you're not there to help solve problems and keep lines running. But for some people that might be incredibly exciting.
