Experience Information
Employer: Innotec, Corp.
Job Title: Intern
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Received Credit: Yes
Paid: Yes
Abroad: No
Description of the Organization
Innotec's main business comes as a supplier in the automotive industry. My division launches toolsets used for the bending and notching of headrest bars.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
As an intern my primary purpose was to handle sub-projects to keep the launch moving along. Due to my previous experience with the company and the division I was able to go into the co-op handling larger projects. Primarily I was assisting an engineer who was handling the launch of two toolsets that would run production in another plant.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Assembly of sub-components, troubleshooting bugs in the toolset, product run offs for customer samples, collecting measurement data for CPK studies, part checking, ordering standard parts and materials, and kicking our suppliers off on sub-component builds.
Favorite Part of the Experience
The division I worked with has a system where each engineer handles the launch of a product from beginning to end and is very involved with every aspect of the project from project manager, hands-on building of the product, and designer to some extent. This "hands-on" approach is exciting to me as it integrates many aspects of engineering.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has given me a really good idea of what I enjoy doing and what I will be looking for in a future company to begin a career with.
