Description of the Organization
JR Automation is a 36 year old company with roughly 900 employees. JR is a company that creates solutions for industrial problems that do not already have a solution. These solutions entail a design process in which a unique platform (eg. machine) is designed built, and programmed to perform tasks for a wide customer base. A large percentage of jobs entail some sort of automation, may it be a robot, dial table, or servo motor. Each machine varies in sized from job to job and every machine is generally vastly different from jobs that preceded.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Throughout my internship I detailed and checked prints of details and assemblies before they were released for fabrication and assembly. I was also tasked with designing small additions to existing cells that were already on the build floor. The parts I worked with varied from weldments, to sheet metal, to purchased components, and customer data.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I strengthened my knowledge base of how to design industrial equipment and became more familiar with tricks to to capitalize on throughout this process. Other knowledge I gained included certain things to watch out for while detailing and/or checking detail packages.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I love working at JR Automation. The job is extremely rewarding in nature as one gets to see the creation that was once a figment of one's imagination, come alive. The people and the culture of the company make JR an enjoyable place to work. Although the work is great, ping pong is a culture that turns grown men into kids who become overly excited about a remarkable shot.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I have learned so much over the past three semesters working at JR. What I didn't know is how much I would enjoy the work I am doing, and how rewarding it is. I strive to work hard day in and day out. I had always hoped to find a job that I would look forward to working for, and I have found that with JR Automation
