Description of the Organization
TGW Systems is headquartered in Wels Austria. North American operations are split between three locations, Grand Rapids, Muskegon and Atlanta. There are about 500 people working for TGW North America.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Project engineering at TGW puts all of the puzzle pieces together and orders anything todo with mechanical install. After the project is sold and the preliminary design is done Project engineering takes the project and does more detail engineering for the entire project. Some of the major items that we handle are mezzanines, fencing, safety, stairs, racking, and large portions of conveyor like sorters or cranes.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
This experience enhanced my knowledge of AutoCAD greatly and introduced SketchUp as a way to better portray items to customers and vendors. Purchasing and quoting of items from third party suppliers was also a large portion of my job that I previously did not know anything about.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of my Co-op experince was the multiple times that I got to travel to jobs sites in Ohio, South Carolina and New York state.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I previously did not know what kind of field I wanted to be in but working for TGW Systems has helped me realize that I want to do something in automated solutions for distribution centers or parcel carriers.
