Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
My day to day activities included designing system layouts of control devices necessary to the operation of the system, drawing these systems in AutoCAD, and the documentation to support these installations. Once the system design and schematics are complete, the software has to be written for the programmable logic controller so it can correctly processes the input and output devices previously added.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I learned the design of 480VAC three phase based electrical systems, control system concepts, AutoCAD, and the Allen-Bradley PLC programming environment.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part was being able to see so much of the system I helped design go from concepts on a board to an installed system at a customer site.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
It has definitely made me consider a career as a Controls engineer in material handling, which I probably wouldn't have previously considered.
