Description of the Organization
Innotec is a number of other companies and divisions that are pieced together in a very unusual structure and organization. They are involved in lighting, automotive parts, furniture, transportation, and other endeavors.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
The majority of my tasks focused on production of parts. I spent and average of 35 hours plus per week being responsible for production. This entailed everything from organizing incoming materials, organizing outgoing materials, filling materials needed for production, taking out scrap from production, cleaning up production areas, doing change overs between production models, fixing issues with production, and all other aspects of making products. The remainder of my time was spent in meetings, ordering spare parts for my group, tracking internal scrap and rework parts, and preparing for the monthly divisional competition. The amount of time spent on engineering tasks was negligible.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
This past semester did not provided any additional skills or knowledge.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I can't say that I had a favorite part. The Co-Op was very challenging dealing with the constant changes in direction and the constant changes in leadership. There were to many obstacles to overcome that should have no part in an college Co-Op experience. The large production schedule limited how much could be done outside of it and was very disappointing.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
My future career goals have only changed in that I will no longer consider employment at any company that has a similar model to that of Innotec. My experience here was a very poor one and I would not like to have a future career in a similar company.
