Bluebird Cancer Retreats is a non-profit organization which provides hope and support for adults with cancer.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I helped organize, prepare and plan for retreats, fundraisers and events. I was directly involved with retreats, fundraisers and helping provide a face for Bluebird. I worked alongside of the Executive President of the organization and helped assist her in any needs in the process of the 2014 year.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained so many interpersonal communication skills and was able to strengthen them to the fullest. I believe the hands on experience and being able to be a direct part of the organization was extremely beneficial. I was able to take part in every aspect of Bluebird.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part was taking part in retreats and being able to interact with participants and volunteers. I have gained so much inner knowledge in how non-profit organizations flow. I was also reminded of the importance of relationships and relationship building during my experience. I realized that I want to continue helping others in need, and I will continue to reach out to those who need that extra boost of support.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
It has shown me and reassured that i want to eventually be involved in the non-profit world of health communications and advertising and public relations. My passion towards people and non profits has grown immensely throughout this experience. This experience has helped me grow as a person and I am so grateful for this wonderful opportunity. I have created so many relationships that I will never forget throughout this experience. So many memories and emotions have flown throughout this internship experience and I would not change it for the world. I am fortunate to be a part of the Bluebird family and I thank my advisor Lorie Jager for opening the door for such an amazing opportunity.
