JR Automation designs and builds factory automation equipment for various applications. Machines are fully custom to meet the customer's requirements. Scale ranges from small standalone machines to multi-machine fully automatic assembly lines.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I worked in quoting department, where I would develop an initial concept for a particular application. After the initial concept, I meet with a team of engineers to discuss feasibility and usually make modifications. Once everyone is cool with our strategy, I price out the components we will eventually need to build this machine and prepare a proposal for the customer.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
-Detailed knowledge of various assembly techniques -Expanded knowledge of common machine components used in automation. -Experience developing complex solutions -Expanded knowledge of mechanical systems
Favorite Part of the Experience
In general, I enjoyed the entire co-op. I was given real engineering work from the start of the semester. By mid-semester I had a decent grasp on things and felt like a real contributor to the team. A couple of the larger, more challenging projects were my favorite part of the semester.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I never dreamed that I would actually enjoy going into work. I would accept a job at JR without thinking twice.
