Employer: DornerWorks
Job Title: Engineering Intern
Major: Electrical Engineering
Received Credit: Yes
Paid: Yes

Description of the Organization

DornerWorks is a leader in embedded systems design, focusing in the areas of medical, aerospace, automotive, and military. We are a contract-driven company who is beginning to develop products of our own for sale.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

Worked with AngularJS, JavaScript, Python, Jenkins CI server, Node.js, Flask web framework, SQL Alchemy databases etc. to create a rough draft of a requirements management tool meant to be used in house and potentially sold to manage project requirements. Communicated between a server which controlled the database, the converter which polled the Git repository for changes with the CI server, and the frontend written in JavaScript. Worked for a large company in the area on an ITAR protected project involving debug tests in the Ada language using GDB for use in their product; verification of low-level requirements by these tests.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

- Ada, GDB, more Python, JavaScript, AngularJS, Flask web framework, SQL Alchemy databases - How to work on a semi-confidential project - Independent and team-based work

Favorite Part of the Experience

Finishing the requirements management tool that I wrote most of myself was a cool experience, as well as getting up to speed very quickly on a big project and contributing as a intern on the same level as a full time engineer.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

It hasn't affected them much - still will look to interview for a full-time position at DornerWorks among other places locally.
