DornerWorks is an embedded systems engineering firm located in Southeast Grand Rapids. The company has over 50 employees and specializes in aerospace (safety-critical), medical, automotive and various commercial applications.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I worked on a variety of tasks, including testing, software development, and PR materials.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
This semester I was able to grow in software development, testing in a Scrum environment for a customer, and strategizing about what how to tweak a product. It was a experience in seeing the big picture and making informed decisions based on this.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I enjoyed working on an internal software tool for the company in Python. I was able to take the tool in it's basic state and add a lot of versatile functionality to it.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I am grateful for the chance to hone my software development skills and get experience in a language I had only dabbled in before. Further, I have seen firsthand how the big picture can inform everyday engineering decisions.
