Magna Mirrors is a division of Magna Donnelly, a multi billion dollar a year company. Magna is a cutting edge company that leads the competition in the mirror industry and allows their co-ops to embrace all sides of the business.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

During my first coop at Magna Mirrors I had the pleasure to design two pieces of testing machinery, learn different techniques of finite element analysis and visit General Motors and Chrysler. I had opportunities to immerse myself in a variety of designs, prototype builds and in the field mirror testing.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

Finite element analysis, Creo designing ability, and testing skills are just a few of the skills I took away for my co-op at Magna Mirrors. The engineers there really help you learn the steps and are very open to teaching you what they have taken from their years of experience.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part of the co-op experience was the opportunity's to work under seasoned engineers and see a variety of what they do and what I would be doing if I choose to pursue a job in this field. I had the opportunity to see a variety of engineering jobs and what each one does differently from the other.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience has gave me a new drive to go back to classes this fall and take in as much knowledge and new skills as possible. This co-op allowed me to apply the skills learned from engineering school at GVSU and improve upon them. This opportunity has verified my decision on what degree I should pursue and has opened my eyes to what an actual engineer does.
