Description of the Organization
GE Aviation in Grand Rapids produces Avionics (Aviation Electronics). This involves any electrical system that could go on an airplane - commercial or military.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
While at GE Aviation I completed support role type tasks. This included document review, Requirements capturing and review, and Interface Control Document design and error clean-up. Requirements are rules set out for the specific system that you are working on. Interface Control Documents are a combination of text, tables and XML sheets that define the interfaces between systems.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained an understanding of the fundamentals of avionics and systems engineering. I learned how to work with XML and write requirements. I increased my leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My experience with GE has been so amazing that is hard to pinpoint one favorite part. I had an amazing team to work with, enjoyable and important tasks, a motivating assignment leader/manager, positive work environment as well as tons of networking and professional development opportunities.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has motivated me professionally. It has given me a better understanding of what my future can hold and my own capabilities. Prior to this experience, I was not considering pursuing a Master's Degree, but that is one of my top options following my undergraduate studies.
