Magna Mirrors in Holland, MI, focuses on the manufacturing and assembly of interior and exterior mirrors.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
During my first rotation at Magna, I was tasked with measuring and analyzing critical dimensions on mirrors, conducting capability studies on various processes throughout the facility, programming a multisensor measurement system, and creating MRO forms for spare parts. I also had the opportunity to do some design work in SolidWorks for multiple new machine components.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
One of the most important things that I learned during this experience was the process of making and assembling interior and exterior mirrors. I also gained significant knowledge in how to better analyze data and conduct process capability studies, along with more experience in designing and modeling machine components in SolidWorks.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this co-op experience was the people I worked with and the problem solving skills that I gained from the various projects and tasks that I worked on.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has influenced my career goals by giving me a better understanding of the automotive and manufacturing sectors of engineering. I have become more interested in the manufacturing area of engineering, so that may be the career path I will choose in the future.
