Experience Information

Employer: Rose Medical
Job Title: Project Engineering Intern
Major: Interdisciplinary Engineering
Received Credit: Yes
Paid: Yes
Abroad: No

Description of the Organization

Rose Medical is a contract manufacturer for medical tubing and fixtures, both sterile and non-sterile. We have roughly 65 employees.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I worked directly with a few companies helping them optimize the design of their products so we could put them into production. Since I was aware of what Rose Medical could offer, I would help shape the design around what we were able to produce and then I would help design the machines that produced the parts. I worked directly with many different prototypes but I also worked a lot with improving processes to decrease the time it takes to make a part in production. I spent a lot of time learning how to write technical reports and becoming much better at CAD. Every day was different and we were allowed to work independently even as interns. It was a lot of hands-on problem solving.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I got much more efficient when using SolidWorks. A lot of my co-op was design based so SolidWorks was a large part of everyday. I also got much better at technical report writing and problem solving.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My employer was phenomenal. I was mentored if I needed help but I was able to work independently if we felt I was good on my own. My questions never went unanswered but I was also never really treated like an intern. They treated me like I was a new full-time engineer.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

I have always wanted to go into Biomedical Engineering and this just helped get me excited for everything in the future.
